Dublin 1902

Liz Queen of Clean

You may not have read that Malones Cleaning has been an established business in Dublin since 1902, you can read more about our own history here.

We thought we'd take a trip into the past and see what else was happening in Dublin and Ireland that year.

W.B. Yeats and Lady Gregory wrote the one act play Cathleen Ní Houlihan which was performed for the first time. Ireland was depicted as a woman encouraging her sons to fight for her. It was a  part of the Irish struggle for Independence.

Our most famous literary son James Joyce finished his degree in UCD and was let loose into the wide world, two years before he met Nora Barnacale who eventually inspired him to write Ulysses.

In that same year two English film makers Mitchell & Kenyon travelled to Ireland and made a series of shorts.

Watch their short piece filmed at UCC Sports Day.

The Irish were making their mark in London where the Gaelic League were keeping traditions alive by organising dances to promoted Irish culture at the Athenaeum Hall, Tottenham Court Rd.

There was a cold snap that year judging from this photo of College Green in Dublin.

Apart from a win over Wales in football (3-0) in Cardiff our other football results were not so impressive.

Linfield won the Irish League and the Irish Cup
